16° young creators to the world contest finalist - prom peru

My latest collection for Áurea was presented in the annual Young Creators contest organized by Prom Peru. Inspired by the journey from the purity of nature to total infertility, each garment represents different states of nature, from abundance to devastation caused by human greed. With designs that honor life on Earth, this collection seeks to raise awareness and motivate action. Each garment was made with sustainable materials such as organic cotton and wool and alpaca fibers. These materials are naturally dyed to highlight the beauty of our fragile environment and emphasizing the connection between fashion and nature, in order to generate a sense of responsibility but also hope, reminding us of the need to act to protect our ecosystem.

Look #1: currents:

Inspired by the marine currents of Peru, this look shows an organic cotton flared dress that represents the tide of a healthy sea, deep and full of life. Made with 100% Peruvian organic cotton dyed with Indigo using the shibori technique. It includes an Alpaca shawl, which alludes to the foam of the waves on the seashore.

Look #2: Chained

Dress knitted in jersey and dropped stitch with Alpaca wool dyed with Indigo. Application of braided cord woven around the neckline and as a belt around the waist with hand-spun merino wool dyed with Eucalyptus. This look represents the over exploitation of the Peruvian sea. The openwork of the knit alludes to the deterioration of the habitat of our marine species. The chains symbolize the hand of humanity and the control they intend to exercise over nature.

Look #3: Contentainment

Dress knitted with Alpaca wool dyed with Indigo in jersey and dropped stitch. Organic jersey pima cotton gloves dyed with Eucalyptus using the shibori technique. This look is an interpretation of the bamboo forests in the high jungle of Chanchamayo, Junín. With the aim of avoiding landslides in the mountains caused by the consequent mudslides during the rainy season in the region, the bamboo forests help protect the planted plots from future landslides, rocks and other trees. In addition to its flexibility and resistance to contain landslides, bamboo helps preserve the environment, since it produces more oxygen than traditional trees in the area.
